What's wrong with Florida?

Tony Bennett recently shown the door in Indiana for being divisive and enacting reforms that the states citizens didn’t agree with landed on his feet when he was selected to be Florida’s commissioner of education. Talk about one states trash being another states treasure.

The largest teacher’s union in the state immediately came out against the appointment as did 9 parents groups from across the state. Now I expect the state to ignore its teachers, they have been doing so for years but to ignore its parents is a little more surprising.

You see Florida has been selling choice for years but apparently they will only listen to parents if they make the choice that the state board of education wants them to make.

This all begs the question, if Florida’s parents and teachers didn’t want Tony Bennett to become the commissioner of education who does? Since Bennett is a proponent of charter schools, vouchers and high stakes testing my bet is the answer is follow the money.
