Hank Rogers, candidate for school board District 5

My name is Hank Rogers and I am honored to be a candidate for the Duval County School Board District 5 seat. I am 1 of 11 children educated in public schools and stand on the shoulders of my grandmother and aunts who created an honorable legacy of service in education.
In 1999, I moved to Jacksonville to attend the University of North Florida (UNF).  There I became the voice for 13,000 students when I was elected President of the Student Body and a member of the Board of Trustees (2002-03).  Upon graduating from UNF with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.  For nearly a decade I served as a senior staffer for several Florida State Representatives.  It was during this time that I honed my skills in policy analysis (focusing on children and education issues), the state budget process, and coalition-building across party lines for the greater good of Duval county residents.  Along the way, I received a Master’s in Public Administration from Troy University.  I currently work to provide mentors for students to address their life skill challenges.  I was indeed privileged to work alongside our dedicated teachers and administrators for a little more than 2 years as a Substitute Teacher.

As a resident, I am a incredibly active participant in our schools and community, serving on School Advisory Councils (SAC) and regularly attending NAACP Education Committee and District Advisory Council (DAC) meetings.  Since 2010, I’ve partnered with Pink Lady Charities, Inc. to host an annual Senior Wellness Luncheon, hosting five hundred (500+) seniors and providing educational information on health and wellness.  Additionally, I serve as a Board Member on the Northeast Florida Community Action Agency, which is committed to helping children and the working poor.  Furthermore, I serve as a Youth Advisor at church.  Lastly, I have been a fighter for our most vulnerable youth having served as a Guardian Ad Litem since 2003.
I am invested in our community and our children.  As the next School Board Member in District 5, I will:
Ensure proper funding is allocated in the budget to strengthen safety measures at all schools.

Engage parents and students by hosting office hours in District 5 schools.

Replicate successful programs throughout the county.

Address the digital divide in the classroom through public-private partnerships by outfitting classrooms with technological tools in the classroom to spur innovation.

Expand the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Program to elementary schools and work with local colleges and universities to provide scholarships for graduating seniors.

Explore funding for media specialists and after-school programs to support youth literacy.

I will be a staunch advocate for effective education policies that help all our children succeed and supports teachers.

I invite you to learn more about me and my plans to make District 5 a better place so all children have an equal opportunity to learn, succeed, excel. I am passionate about our district and dedicated to our children.  Please email me at  hankorogers@icloud.com.  I look forward to the next several months on the campaign trail, hearing directly from you on how to make our district great.  I solicit your prayers, support and vote on Tuesday, August 30th

In Service to You,
Hank
